Now that we finally have our car, it's been much easier to get out of town and explore. The kids have been dying to see the beach, so we took advantage of the long Eid weekend and headed to Ain Sohkna. It takes a little over two hours to get there and the drive is easy, though not scenic. The coastline is actually quite pretty with the stunning contrasting colors of the Red Sea and the mountains. However, like much of Egypt there are several unfinished hotels along the beaches which ruins the ambiance.
We actually decided to rent an Airbnb thinking it would be more comfortable for everyone and to avoid having to eat hotel food every day. But without going into all the details, it was the worst Airbnb rental we've ever stayed in. It was so bad that we were researching how to get reimbursed and moved to another location as soon as we arrived. But the host made the two hour drive from Cairo to try and fix all the issues and even offered a free night. So we decided to stick it out, especially since the water park was just a 3 minute walk from our place which the kids loved.

This was Ember's first time at a water park and she
loved it! |

We didn't want our place to ruin our stay, so we made the most of it and had a good time. Will we come back to Sokhna? Probably not. We weren't really blown away by it and because it was so rocky, the kids spent more time at the pool and the water park than the beach. But we're glad we went and look forward to the next destination within Egypt.
