Glitter Ball 2012

It's probably the most highly anticipated event of the year here in Dhaka.  We weren't even sure we wanted to go.  But with a little luck and perfect timing, Robbie scored tickets to the infamous Glitter Ball.

Glitter Ball is a party organized by the Australian community to help raise money for various charities in Bangladesh.  Every table comes up with a theme and dresses accordingly.  Some even perform short skits - our table opted out of that, thank goodness.  I have to say, I wasn't expecting such elaborate costumes living in a country with no costume shop.  But some ordered their costumes online while others had local tailors create the most bizarre outfits.  The tailors must think Westerners are a weird bunch!

Our table decided to dress up as 70s tennis players (tennis is a very popular sport among the expat community).  The guys wore very short and tight white tennis shorts with tight polo style shirts and the ladies wore the ugliest tennis skirts/skorts you can imagine.  I couldn't find anything in my size at the local sporting goods store, so I had a tailor recreate a 70s inspired tennis dress I found online.  Then to complete the look, we all wore headbands and wristbands.  The best part about our costume was that we were able to wear sneakers.....perfect for dancing!

Robbie and I had the best time - it's nice to just let loose and be stupid once in a while.  I should also add here that we will never look at Mason's school teachers the same EVER again.   They went beyond letting loose which I suppose was very much needed.
