Spunky

While we were at the soccer fields playing with Jax, Uncle Jon stumbled upon a newborn Morning Dove under a tree.  The nest was on the ground, along with a broken egg and another baby bird (which unfortunately did not make it).  The kids were obviously fascinated by the bird and decided to name it Spunky.
After a quick search on Auntie Sov's iPhone (this time we were actually thankful someone had one), we found a nice woman nearby who takes in and rehabilitates injured animals.....anything from squirrels to birds to opossums to geese.

So Mom, Dad, Mason, and Cadyn hopped into the car and rushed Spunky to the wildlife rescue center a.k.a. the basement of this dedicated woman's house.

When we got there, Spunky was examined and weighed and placed in the incubator.  We were surprised to see so many other baby birds that had been abandoned but they all seemed to be in good care.  Spunky was given an ID number, so Mason and Cadyn will be able to follow up on his/her progress (we can't tell the sex of the bird since the organs are on the inside).  We wish you all the best Spunky!
