6 more in the bag
Robbie and I went on our annual "honeymoon" to Colorado to bag some fourteeners. This time we were able to summit 6 peaks, plus one unofficial fourteener.
Since we only had 5 days, we chose peaks that were close to Denver. The first peaks we climbed were Mt. Evans (14,264 ft) and Mt. Bierstadt (14,060 ft) via the "Sawtooth" traverse. Route finding was a bit of a challenge in the beginning, but once we got on track, the trail was more obvious and traversing the "Sawtooth" was super fun! The next day we headed over to the Tenmile-Mosquito Range to conquer the Lincoln Group which includes Mt. Democrat (14,148 ft), Mt. Lincoln (14,286 ft), and Mt. Bross (14,172 ft). The trek was long and tiring, but the incredible scenery made up for it all. Perhaps that's why we convinced ourselves to squeeze in one last climb before heading to Vail.
The trailhead for Mt. Quandary (14,265 ft) is just a 10 minute drive from the Lincoln Group trailhead so we couldn't resist. The best part about this climb was the number of mountain goats we encountered! They were everywhere and were certainly not afraid of people.
After 6 peaks we were finally ready to take off our boots and relax in Vail. We ordered in and watched a movie one night and slept in until 8:30 the next morning, something we haven't been able to do in 6 years. And since Robbie was training for his triathlon, we went for a late morning run on the Gore Valley trail and spent the rest of the day walking through the farmers market and Vail Village.
As always, we had a wonderful time in Colorado and we couldn't thank Sov enough for taking care of Mason and Cadyn while we were away. When we returned from our trip, the kids kept going on and on about all the fun things they did with their favorite Auntie.
